Nanotechnology Engagement Group (NEG)
The government has learnt that to ensure public support for emerging technologies the governance of the underpinning science must be transparent. Involving the public in the research and development of new science and technologies helps ensure that their social, ethical, health and environmental impacts are considered. It contributes to improving people’s knowledge about new fields of research, and may build public confidence in the institutions that regulate it. The Nanotechnology Engagement Group (NEG) was established in 2005 to stimulate new thinking and practice around public engagement on nanotechnologies. It aimed to capture the learning from public dialogue on nanotechnology engagement projects and make recommendations for future research and practice in this field. The project closed in June 2007 with the publication of a final report The NEG was funded by Sciencewise, the government's programme for public dialogue in science and technology. Links:
